Excursion to Old Epidavros - Olive Oil Mill

The Sunken City

After picking you up from your accommodation we travel from Nafplio to Old Epidavros and follow the coastline in a southerly direction until reaching the small beach of Kalymnios. A short distance off the beach and at a depth of merely 2 metres a part of the ancient city of Epidavros (built in 1200 BC) is found on the sea bed. It has been rederred to as the Lost Atlantis of Argolida. It is possible to swim from the beach or go by small boat to see the ruins where even the ancient pier is visible. This is a great opportunity to explore underwater with just a mask and snorkel as it is shallow and its also perfect for taking underwater photos.

Visit a local, modern olive oil press and see how olive oil is made.. from the fruit right through the whole process to bottling and then taste the results. An eye-opening experience and a relaxing way to end your excursion.

Olive Oil Mill

Greek Virgin Olive Oil

The real ancient Epidauros. Just a couple of strokes from the beach you can snorkel around the walls of the sunken city. Absolutely great experience. There are 7-8 large jars in a building made of stone I think, a part of a road and a building with rectangular stone floor, which is really amazing. One minute walk from the local "parking" if you find some space. I suggest early morning visit, sun helps in the morning to see details and the beach is empty.

Great Visit and tasting. We received a personal tour of this small olive oil estate while staying in the Nafplio area. Our guide was extremely informative and passionate about their purely organic cold-pressed products. Being a small company, it’s difficult for them to complete with the larger, more commercial, Italian giants like Bertolli etc.. yet the quality of their oils far exceeds the Italian giants who, by the way, often uses Greek olives to make their so-called Italian olive oils. Do visit this lovely estate just 30 minutes outside of Nafplio and do buy their wonderful oils as well as facial products made with their own oils.

I have visited Mycenae during my European tour with friends. We were astonished by the grandeur and the craftmanship of people who built these walls and tombs. The museum was small, but the antiquities were well presented.
